In Case You Missed It: Fashion Week AW2020

With the industry wondering what the future holds for fashion week as we know it, we take a quick look back at a few highlights from the past season.

1. Telfar Took Pitti

The self proclaimed “world’s most important platform for mens clothing” invited Telfar to show his collection along with Jil Sander and Random Identities as part of their quite successful guest designer program. His offering of romantic ruffling, experimental suiting, and luxe loungewear drew lines between the rich cultural heritage fostered by the renaissance periods of both Florence and Harlem. If that wasn’t enough, Telfar brought his followers more delight with the announcement of his partnership with American clothing staple, Gap.

2. Kim Met Koche

The Queen Bee was a big mood for Koche’s Autumn/Winter 2020 show, and we don’t mean the clothing. Hairstylist Jawara Wauchope gave Lil Kim a special nod this season with model manes featuring colorful spray painted graphics inspired by her own stencil designed styles from the 90s.

3. From Lagos to the Louvre

After captivating the fashion world at Lagos Fashion Week and subsequently becoming an LVMH finalist last September, Kenneth Ize stormed Paris with a collage of color and print using traditional Nigerian ashoke fabric. A superstar cast of models and supporters including Debra Shaw, Naomi Campbell, and Imaan Hammam was icing on the cake.

4. Achenrin Walked the Walk

It’s safe to say 17 year old Achenrin Madit was Autumn/Winter 2020’s runway champ. Only three seasons into her career, the Nebraska born South Sudanese model ended the season with a whopping 39 shows under her belt.

5. Vetements Played “Guess Who?”

When Vetements showed this season, it was not the clothing but the casting that had their audience doing double takes. The unexpected selection of celeb dupes, including an offbrand Naomi Campbell (cheekbones and all) would have almost anyone fooled. But we know Muva when we see her!

6. CJR Turned Up The Volume

New York designer Christopher John Rogers shut down Spring Studios with yet another theatrical presentation and plenty of hair inspo. While his post-CFDA show brought old school glamour into the modern age, Rogers was intent on pushing things up a notch with the help of his newly expanded resources. The result? A whirlwind of explosive color, playfully manipulated fabrics, and voluminous “look at me” silhouettes.
